Greetings,
Thank you to
everyone who joined us earlier today to help commemorate the 81st
Anniversary of the Battle of Midway.
As you may know, the
Battle of Midway was one of the most consequential naval engagements in
history. Our incredible men and women of the Sea Services conducted a
relentless campaign against the Japanese and forced them to retreat.
To honor this battle
– one that changed the course of WWII – the Chief of Naval Operations
(CNO), Admiral Michael Gilday, spoke at a wreath-laying ceremony this
morning at the Navy Memorial.
"I can think of no better occasion to
reflect on the fighting spirit of all Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen
who went before us to defend freedom and democracy during those pivotal
days in June of 1942."
- Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral
Michael Gilday
Additionally, CNO
Adm. Mike Gilday presented a proclamation to Midway Veteran YNC William
Norberg with 100 Sailors, 60 Honor Flight Veterans, and proud Americans in
attendance.
We invite you to
